Requirements/Limitations
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is like a charitable investment account established for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about. When you contribute cash, securities or other assets to a donor advised fund you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth and you can recommend grants to virtually any IRS qualified public charity, including The Catholic Foundation.
The Catholic Foundation is an IRS-qualified public charity eligible to receive DAF distributions. We receive DAF distributions regularly for a variety of donor-selected purposes. We would be honored to accept your DAF distribution.
With a gift of cryptocurrency, you can direct a contribution to The Catholic Foundation to support the work of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Lansing. Your donation is made to Every.org, a tax-exempt US 501(c)(3) charity that liquidates cryptocurrency and grants funds to The Catholic Foundation on your behalf. 100% of your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by US law. After your donation is confirmed, you will immediately get a tax-deductible receipt emailed to you by Every.org. The Every.org exchanges generally charge a 1% flat fee to automatically liquidate cryptocurrency. It is the only fee related to the gift.
As a legal matter, Every.org must provide any donations to The Catholic Foundation on an unrestricted basis. However, the Catholic Foundation will direct your contribution for the benefit of the designated purpose of your choice. If you have not already done so, please contact Matt Hufnagel, President of The Catholic Foundation, at 989-780-1600 or mhufnagel@catholicfoundationoflansing.org to advise us of the designated purpose for your generous gift.
